Brindley Field Cemetery

A Brief History: If you are familiar with the town of Commack New York, then you most likely have heard of Burr Road. The road was named after the Burr Family and their mansion that is located on that block. The Burr Family basically built Commack. The first Burr’s that resided in Commack came shortly after 1656 and purchased 166 acres of land. At one time the family farm encompassed what is now the Home Depot shopping center. The Burr Family Cemetery or Brindley Field Cemetery is located in the parking lot of the Home Depot located at 5025 Jericho Turnpike Commack New York.


From the 1600’s until the early 1900’s the area belonged to the Burr Family. During WWI In June of 1918 an aviation camp was set up on the corner of Jericho Turnpike and Larkfield Road. This was known as Brindley Field. The airfield was a satellite facility of Mitchell Field. Brindley Field was the last training ground before pilots flew over to France.


Haunted History: People have claimed to have seen the apparition of a man walking through the cemetery and then disappear. Shoppers at the home depot have claimed to have felt like they were being watched after walking past the cemetery.
